I'm here to help answer your car questions or if you want to know anything about the man behind MCD. :) Every weekday we post a car article at 10 am, an auto tip at 2pm, and fun stuff in between.
If you like what you see here, you can also find us on twitter and facebook.
Hey gang, I know I haven’t been on here in quite a while, but now that Hootsuite is allowing me to link my tumblr through them, it will be easier to post auto tips on here for ya. Sorry for the absence, but I’m glad to be back.
Here’s your first #auto101 tip for the year:
The temperatures out there the past few days have been brutal (in the negatives throughout most of the midwest and the north). If your car is outside, make sure you let it run for a good 20 minutes or so (even in you’re not going anywhere…and you shouldn’t be with the roads as bad as they are!). This helps the fuel flow and helps prevent gas line freeze ups. The gas lines are tiny metal pipes, smaller than a pencil. If the arctic chill freezes the small amounts of fuel in them, then you could be stuck even when you DO want to go somewhere (Can you say, “cabin fever”? I knew ya could! lol).
If your car is an unheated garage, make sure you crack the garage door a few inches first. This will prevent carbon monoxide fumes building up.
MAKE SURE YOU SET A TIMER ON YOUR PHONE, MICROWAVE OR STOVE so that you don’t forget and run your car out of gas!!!!
If you car is in a heated garage, then you’re fine, your car is toasty, pour another cup of hot chocolate, toss another log on the fire, and let’s see what’s on Netflix, shall we? :)
This has been another (frozen) #Auto101 tip from your pal, #MyCarDoc!
